Product Description
FOR JEEP WRANGLER JT 2024-2025
Rock Slide Engineering’s newly designed 3rd Generation Step Slider is next level. This fully functional, trail rated, rock slider is integrated with a power step for easy access for all demographics. Cosmetic changes allow the step to curve and follow the contour of the vehicle, minimizing spacing between the rear end of the extension to the fender flare. An additional 2 inches on the back end of the step has been added to this generation for better, safer access to the rear door. Our engineers have incorporated smart motor technology and eliminated the gas strut from the internals of the step to increase the motor longevity. This improvement will keep your step deploying and retracting consistently, even in cold and harsh weather. A sleep mode has been built in to minimize battery drainage. The slider provides protection for the rocker panel on your Jeep. The step will deploy a full 12 inches down from the body of the Slider when the door is opened. After closing your door, the step will automatically retract and sit flush with the body of the step slider.
Our Step Slider is made of 10-gauge steel construction. We use a state-of-the-art automated powder coat system to acid etch the raw base material in preparation for the textured black topcoat. The internals of the step slider are made of stainless steel and aluminum to prevent rusting. This plug and play system is designed to utilize the factory mounting points for a no-drill installation. It uses a stand-alone wire harness, so no splicing or rewiring on your Jeep is necessary. This will allow you to retain your manufacturer warranty after installation. The Step Slider is rated for moderate off-road conditions. More aggressive trails require the additional skid plate for the step slider to provide further stability and protection. Justin Bera (verified owner) –
Lets start with the good. These look amazing. They function as advertised and I really appreciate having the step. They’re a solid upgrade from the stock rock rails on my 2024 Gladiator Rubicon. The bulk of their mounting strength comes from the frame and not the body, so sliding over rocks isn’t going to risk denting or twisting body mount points like the stock ones would have. They’re VERY solid and the step doesn’t even hint at being weak or flimsy and I’m a big guy. Would I buy them again? Yes. Now for the bad. The installation is not 4 hours, not even close, and you’ll have to plan on some creative solutions to get these to work. I had to widen a few holes, find new wiring paths (some suggested in the doc weren’t valid on my model), and file down some bolt threads. One a 1-5 scale, for a vehicle owner and not a 4×4 shop these are probably a 4. The only person who get these installed in 4 hours is someone whose done two or three of this model already (a 4×4 shop) or the Rock Slide engineers themselves. It took me 10 hours total in my driveway, start to cleanup. The installation documentation is…ok…not great. While there are pictures (some are fuzzy, others are dark, and in a few you can’t tell what you’re looking at) and the documentation is obviously written by a native English speaker, it leaves much to be desired. There were at least four omissions and mistakes in the documentation that required more time to figure out. I had to call the support line twice. There are hints and tips about how to handle certain potential problems, but they’re in odd places in the doc, not where you’d expect them, not always at the step where you run into the problem. If I had to guess I’d say the documentation was originally written for internal use, not public consumption and someone just turned it around and published it. It is certain there was no technical writer involved. Even the how-to video overlooks many of the questions an average owner might have. I had to go to a 3rd party install video on YouTube for a couple items. For example, nowhere does it explain how to remove the interior plastics of your Jeep to reveal the wiring harnesses and wiring paths. You WILL break clips as a result of this and interior plastics will be a little looser afterward than when you started. Overall the install was a massively frustrating endeavor. Having said all that, would I still buy it again? Yes. Would I have a 4×4 shop install it for me instead of doing it myself? Probably. Should Rock Slide Engineering hire a technical writer to clean up their documentation. Absolutely.
