Troubleshooting

I just installed my steps and they are not coming down when I open the door.

Double check the connections. Check the fuse to make sure it is plugged in. Verify that the motor and circuit boards are plugged in. Re-read calibration steps in instructions; start by unplugging all 4 door sensors and then turn the steps off and back on. Once the steps are turned back on, plug in one door sensor and see if the step comes down. If the step comes down, line up the magnet on the door with the door sensor to retract the step. Complete this process on the other doors.

After following the calibration steps, if the step still has not done anything, check the motor. Simply unplug it from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy. Switch the leads again to make them retract. If the motor doesn’t do anything even after switching polarity, then you have a bad motor.

If the motor works, the next step is checking for power on the harness. There will be 12 wires that plug into the circuit board. Check you are getting 12v on one of the red wires. If you are not getting power at any of the red wires on the plug, then then the wiring harness is bad.

If you have checked the motor and harness and both are good and have verified the calibration steps, then in a rare instance there is an issue with the control module.

One of my Steps is stuck in the down position.

If you unplug the front and the rear door sensor on that side and then cycle the power switch off and back on does the step come back up? If the step comes back up it is most likely that one of the magnets is misaligned from the door sensor. Start by plugging in one door at a time to determine which magnet needs to be repositioned.

If the step stays down, check the motor. Simply unplug it from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy. Switch the leads again to make them retract. If the motor doesn’t do anything even after switching polarity then you have a bad motor.

If the motor works, the next step is checking for power on the harness. There will be 12 wires that plug into the circuit board. Check you are getting 12v on one of the red wires. If you are not getting power at any of the red wires on the plug then then the wiring harness is bad.

If you have checked the motor and harness and both are good, then in a rare instance there is an issue with the control module.

My Step is not going all the way up.

First verify if these are Gen 2 or Gen 3 step sliders.

If these are Gen 2 step sliders, most likely the gas strut inside the step has lost pressure and will need to be replaced. When the step is closing, if you help assist the step with your hand or foot and it goes all the way to the retracted position and stays it will just need to be the gas strut that needs to be replaced. If the step doesn’t deploy all the way or doesn’t go up all the way with assistance then the motor will need to be replaced.

Gas strut: https://shop.suspa.com/c16-18802-gas-spring-p1097.aspx

We do offer a updated stronger spring you can replace that takes place of the gas spring on our website as well:

If these are Gen 3 step sliders, start by removing the fuse of the system for 20 seconds and replacing the fuse. This will calibrate the steps.

If the step is still not going up all the way, check the motor. Simply unplug it from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy. Switch the leads again to make them retract. If the motor still doesn’t go up all the way with external power then there is an issue with the motor.

If you have checked the motor is good and have recalibrated the steps with the fuse then in a rare instance there is an issue with the control module.

My Step is loose when I step on it.

First verify if these are Gen 2 or Gen 3 step sliders.

If these are Gen 2 step sliders there is most likely an issue with the motor internally and the motor will need to be replaced.

If these are Gen 3 step sliders send a video to [email protected] and they can verify if the motor is bad or if it can be fixed with the shim kit.

Everything is working now but I want to take my doors off.

We sell a door delete kit you can add Part# SL-DD-100 for Jeeps and Part#SL-DD-BR for Broncos. This is a button that you press, and the steps deploy and then press again to retract the steps. One kit will be all you need for the vehicle.

I was off roading, accidentally left a door open and ripped a Step off. What now?

We can replace these parts for you at cost. You will have to remove the step off your vehicle to replace the innards. Look under on our website under replacement parts for which rebuild kit you will need.

How do I recalibrate the steps when both steps stopped working?

Pull the fuse out of the system, let it sit out for 20 seconds and reinsert the fuse. This will be the hard reset and recalibration of the step slider.
